A Merry GISHWHES to All

It has begun. GISHWHES that is. My best friend and I have once again put together a team of willing accomplices who are declaring death to normalcy for a week.

What the hell am I talking about? You know, GISHWHES, the 5-time Guinness World Record breaking scavenger hunt hosted by actor Misha Collins. It is comprised of a global community of thousands of individuals (94 countries and growing!) that "gather" for a week online once a year, form international teams, and then go out into the real world and create "art" the likes of which the world has never seen.

Last year GISHWHES was probably one of the coolest things I did ever, in my life. And I've done a lot of cool things. Was it life changing? Not for me (I know it was for some) for me it was life affirming. There is something truly wonderful about a group of people getting together even though they are scattered across the globe trying accomplish seemingly impossible things. Last year I learned how to make my own video game without the help of my programmer husband. My best friend did a diaper drive and donated them to the local women's shelter. Another team member gave a thank you gift to a woman in her community that does sustainable giving. Another team member whom I've known since high school made a tea bag bikini and another made toast underpants (and set of her homes smoke detector in the process.) My goddaughter explained the theory of relativity. It was amazing. And hilarious. And a learning experience. And ridiculous. Oh the ridiculousness.

So this week if you see silliness appear on my facebook and twitter please know its for GISHWHES the most magical time of the year. Just this morning I had to explain hopscotch to a friend of mine. I didn't realize it wasn't universal. Go figure.

Now I'm off to find some unicorn underpants, a Russian flag and some vampire teeth.
