Shopping my closet week 2: Fashion blogger I am not

What did I learn from week 2 of shopping my wardrobe? I'm not cut out to be a fashion blogger. No really. I took exactly one outfit picture during week 2. Yeah I know, sad. I'm going to try to do better this week but I don't have high hopes. Taking pictures of what I'm wearing just don't occur to me. I've done the occasional #ootd and #wiw on instagram in the past but it's not really something I do with great frequency. So I guess I should have known from the word "go" that taking pictures of what I'm wearing wasn't really going to happen.

So basically what I'm saying is that I'm going to be painting pictures with words for this round up.

Day 8: Something daring or exciting

Some people who know me well would suggest that almost everything I own is daring. My sense of style and fashion has always been a compared to the rest of the world. What I chose to wear were my doc martens. Here's the thing, those boots make me excited. I've worn doc martens basically all my life. Okay let's correct that I've worn some form of doc martens all my life. I wore a lot of knock offs when I was a kid. I currently have two pairs of docs in storage in Canada. One pair of mary janes and one pair of 20 eye boots. I think John also has a pair in storage too. I got this pair of 14 eyelet at a local second hand shop. Never been worn. Just my size. 40 Swiss francs. I just about died. They make me excited. So very excited.

Day 9: Two more pieces of accessories than you usually wear

This I found difficult. Mostly because I felt like I was wearing to much. I've always loved what Coco Chanel said, "Before you leave every day, look in the mirror and take one thing off." I put on a few extra bracelets (I was already wearing my watch and my fitbit flex on my opposite wrist.) Had my favourite bow in my hair (it has a skull in the's awesome.) and I was wearing my favourite scarf. It just felt like to much. Way to much. I actually ended up take off the bracelets and the scarf the minute I got home from work. I just couldn't handle that much accessory. I guess the lesson I learned was, I'm okay with my less is more approach to accessories.

Day 10: Something shiny, sheer or silky

Low and behold, the one outfit photo. Kind of. I've owned this dress for years. I bought it as a birthday dress a few years ago.  It's slightly bedazzled which you can't really see at all. But trust me it's there. I promise. It's fun, it's cute and it hangs in my closet waiting to be worn.

Day 11: Something that scares you, just a little bit

I'm going to be honest. I don't own anything that "scares me" and I've got a pretty out there wardrobe. I guess my theory is if it scares me I wouldn't even buy it in the first place.

Day 12: Shoes never worn with this ensemble before.

My every day shoes are a pair of black chuck taylors. I have worn black chuck taylors for years. As in my best friend Jamie has said in the past those are the shoes she most closely associates with me. So I'll wear them with EVERYTHING! I wear a lot of my shoes with basically everything. This day was a bit of a fail though because it was raining...and I didn't go out so really I spent all day in slippers. Which by the way go with everything.

Day 13: A pattern with two colours.

I don't do patterns that much. The only thing in my closet that can even really be deemed a "pattern" is my wide array of leopard print things and my one argyle sweater (which has skulls on it.) So I threw on one of my leopard print cardigans and called it good.

Day 14: An item of clothing you haven’t worn in 12 months.

So fun fact. There is not much in my closet that I haven't worn in 12 month. Here's the thing, we got rid of almost everything we own when we moved here. This is compounded by the fact we have very little closet space so if it hasn't been worn in a while out it goes. The only things really in my closet that I haven't worn in 12 months are really formal things like cocktail dresses, a skirt suit and a pinstriped suit all expensive and classic pieces....but not really appropriate for you know everyday wear.

So there you have it week 2 is complete. I do feel I have a better grasp of what's in my closet which is awesome and I really like the fact that I wasn't discouraged when I wasn't able to follow the daily prompt. I still just shopped my closet and that's all the matters.
